HEAD OVER HEELS
The characters seen in head over heels are:
Donnie the main character who is first seen coming out of the school bus with his friends, he seems to be the team leader of the group as he stands out more than the rest of the characters.
The second character that walks through the hall way is a rebellious teenager who looks mean as he has bad posture and a rude facial expression you can also see that he cares about the way he looks as he has gel combed hair. The third character who is shortly introduced is an elderly English Teacher who seems to be strict and is made fun out of by the bad guy as he makes a mocking face at her. There is a pretty girl who is seen looking at herself in the mirror which implies that she is the popular girl as she cares about how she looks seen from the fact that she prides her appearance - the mirror in her locker. You see the rebellious teenager with another guy, at a locker doing drugs discretely so that they don't get caught by the principle. As the camera tracks outside to the playground you see a fat girl who is by herself reading a book which reveals that she is a loner with no friends, the stereotype of her being alone does suggest that she could play the role of a nerd. The headmaster is introduced as walking around the school. You can tell he is the headmaster as he is smartly dressed in a suit and he has good posture and is introduced to a new teacher and welcomes them - so he seems to be very much in charge. You can tell that there is a new teacher in the school as is being shown around by an elderly lady and introduced to other teachers. There is a group of small girls who are practicing some form of routine outside, the girl that mostly stands out in the group is the girl with the brown hair as she is in the middle and everyone congratulates her on getting the routine right, she seems to be new to the school and is trying to fit in with the group of girls. The ginger haired teacher Drew Barrymore seems to be a nice teacher as she looks nice and dressed really smart in a suit and she is smiling so it shows she is kind and the fact she is with a male character may show that their are in a relationship.
Editing and camera work used in head over heels sequence:
At the beginning of this sequence a mid shot is used to show the back of a school bus this is used to give the viewers an idea as to where the film is set. Slow motion is then used when the camera is tilted sideways and turns 90 degrees upwards and is used consistently when the characters are jumping out of the school bus. the use of slow motion could aslo be used to suggest the importance of the characters shown on the screen. Slow motion is used again in this sequence as the camera is taking us throughout the school and introducing us to key characters in the film. A fast motion pan is also used from character to character linking the characters together.
