Weird Science is riddled with the conventional stereotypes that make up a classic teen movie.
·
The Popular Girl – Being generally beautiful
and attractive this kind of character is normally the one that every boy wants
for themselves and most girls wish they were like – this is seen from the jock characters
( Ian and Max) wanting to have her for themselves even for one day.
·
The Typical ‘Nerd’ – This particular
breed of teen character is always depicted as a wimp, depressingly bullied by
the jocks (which are often seen in these movies – even at the very beginning).
Classically in teen movies the nerd finally reaches a point where he finally
gets whatever girl he wanted or a girlfriend in general the nerd gets a happy
ending.
·
The Big Brother or Sister – Most teen characters
in moves tend to have a sibling and if that sibling is say an older brother
there is always a world of pain and sibling bulling. This kind of thing is not
only seen in movies like ‘Weird Science’ from the 80’s it’s still a common
relationship seen in teen movies today.
·
The Bully, The Jock, and The Jerk – Every
teen movie scenario has one, no matter what there is always a ‘buff’ bad boy
that loves to pick on the little guy, especially a scrawny nerd which is pretty
darn unfortunate for ‘The Typical Nerd’. Now this kind of character is always
bursting with arrogance thinking that every beautiful and remotely popular girl
belongs solely in there cocky hands. However this is greatly challenged by this
movie seeing as the popular girl gets nowhere in there reach – bet that was a
blow to the pretty little Jocks.
